Dr. Kevin Lanning (lanning@fau.edu). Office is MHC 145; office hours are TR 12:30-2 & F 9-12.

Readings

Course readings will be drawn from the relevant literature and made available on a weekly basis.  Many of these readings will be available online; we encourage you to link to this syllabus to facilitate access to these readings.  In addition, there are two assigned books which will be available in the campus bookstore

Chatwin, B. (1987) The Songlines. NY: Viking.

Morell, V. (1995) Ancestral passions: the Leakey family and the quest for humankind's beginnings. NY: Simon & Schuster.

Assignments and grading

Students will work in groups of 2-4 (depending on enrollment) to lead each week's discussion.  Each student will do this on two occasions, once during the first half of the term and once during the second half.  On each of these occasions, students will be expected to write a 3-4 page reaction paper on the material.

Grading will be assigned based on four factors, equally weighted: (a) class presentations, (b) reaction papers, (c) attendance, and (d) periodic quizzes.  These will consist of straightforward questions on the readings; the intention is to reward you for completing the assigned readings in a timely fashion.

Schedule

This schedule is a work in progress which will be filled in as the class proceeds, please bookmark this site (http://wise.fau.edu/~lanning/psy3932) to view the latest assignments.
