AMH 4935: The Fifties

PRESENTATIONS

Overview of Assignment:

After you turn in complete rough drafts of your research paper, you will present your research findings to the class.  Approximately nine students will present each class period.  Your presentations should be about ten minutes long, with an additional five or so minutes for questions and discussion.

For your presentation, you should do the following:

1)    Prepare a clear and logically organized oral presentation of your research findings.  In preparing what to present, you should include the following:

a.     Brief description of your topic;

b.     Identify and explain the thesis that you argue in your paper;

c.     Include a few illustrative examples (quotes, etc.) of the evidence you used to prove your thesis.  You will need to focus in on at least one of your documents, which you will share with the class (see below).

d.     Note:  You may not have time to summarize all aspects of your argument, so “pick and choose” the main ideas you are going to emphasize.

2)    Prepare a short (one page) handout to accompany your presentation, containing:

a.     Title

b.     Thesis

c.     Outline of presentation

d.     Note:  Bring 20 copies of this handout to distribute to the class.

3)    Bring an illustrative sample primary source to share.  Make 20 copies of whatever part(s) of the document you intend to share in your presentation, and staple to your outline.
