Alternative Spring Break 2007

Florida Atlantic University Volunteer Service Offices are hosting Alternative Spring Break in New Orleans! This is a university-wide effort in partnership with Acorn, a national philanthropy organization that is dedicated to helping to clean up the destruction left over by Hurricane Katrina and the FAU Catholic Newman club. Be a part of making a difference in the community of New Orleans!

This trip requires a deposit of $25 in order to hold your place. Sign-up ends on February 14, 2007 by 5:00 pm. There are a limited number of spots available, so be sure to sign-up as soon as possible in your primary campus:

Boca Raton: SAVI and Volunteer Center Office, University Center, Room 207
Broward: Volunteer Services Center, LA Building, Room 108
Jupiter: The Burrow (in the SR Building) at the Activity Center Monitor desk.
Treasure Coast: Student Services Office- JU Building, Room 113

FAQ:

What are the dates?
We will leave for New Orleans on Friday, March 2, 2007 and return to FAU on Thursday, March 8, 2007. Transportation, equipment and room and board will be provided. All meals will also be provided, but will be the basic fare such as cereals, sandwiches, pastas, and soups. Although the meals will not be 5 star dinning occasions, they will be hearty and nourishing!

Where are we staying? What will the accommodations be like?
Accommodations will be modest and represent real-life conditions. Students will be staying in a church.

Should I bring my own bedding?
Cots (small beds) will be provided but students must bring a sleeping bag.

What a day will be like?
The estimated volunteer time per day will be from 7:30-2:30. Projects will be various and evening activities will be offered.

What kinds of clothes should I bring?
All students must have closed-toe work shoes such as work boots or sneakers. It is also important that you bring work clothes that can get dirty. Most of you will probably be throwing them out after the trip!

Where do I sign up?
Volunteers can sign up in the Volunteer Center or SAVI office of your primary campus, providing a $25 check deposit and attend a training session (date TBA).
