A Message from President Brogan In January 2006, Florida Atlantic University's Board of Trustees approved the 2006-2013 Strategic Plan. The period covered by this plan will see the University pass the half-century mark of service as an outstanding center of higher education, research and community engagement. We are proud of everything that our University has accomplished, and we look forward to its continued development in all of these areas, as guided by the strategic plan.
Time has not stood still since the approval of our strategic plan. There have been exciting and challenging new developments in FAU's external and internal environments. FAU has forged partnerships with Scripps Florida, Max Planck, and Torrey Pines, which will ensure the University's key role in the development of the new bioscience world in South Florida. As our college and state college partners expand their missions to include baccalaureate programs, FAU is redefining its role in the world of higher education in its service area. The current economic crisis has made us evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of our operations.
The University is moving into a new era, one that requires careful review of its multi-faceted mission, the definition of our priorities and the development of strategies to meet those priorities. In response to these imperatives, FAU has initiated Project Vision, which will allow us to review the current status of the objectives in our strategic plan while providing a process that will bring all of the University's key functions and values under close examination. Today, more than ever, planning is an essential element of success, and I invite all members of the FAU community to participate in this effort.
I'd like to express sincere thanks to everyone who have contributed their time and talent to develop and refine this plan, particularly to Trustee Nancy Blosser, who led the initial effort on behalf of the Board of Trustees, and to Trustee Scott Adams, who currently chairs the Strategic Planning Committee of the Board of Trustees, and, finally, to Dr. Kristen Murtaugh, who chaired the Strategic Planning Council and recently accepted the challenge of serving as FAU's first Vice President for Strategic Planning.
Thanks to the skill and hard work of everyone who is involved in this important project, Florida Atlantic University has a living road map to a promising and productive future.
