Welcome to the School of Communication & Multimedia Studies

The goal of the School of Communication & Multimedia Studies in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University is to provide students with a broad liberal arts education. Through the curriculum, the research in which the school engages, and the services it provides, students gain the knowledge and skills that will allow them to understand and contribute to today’s increasingly communication and media-oriented environment. Our courses are designed to help students become more ethical, effective communicators in all contexts, including interpersonal situations, large public gatherings, and in print, radio, television, film, and emerging technologies. Graduates also receive the skills to become more critical and analytical consumers of communication in all its respects.

The undergraduate program in the School of Communication & Multimedia Studies offers a variety of liberal arts and technically-oriented courses that cover theoretical, historical, multicultural, analytical, critical, and performance approaches to communication processes and media. At the same time, the program provides flexibility, allowing students to emphasize areas of special interest, such as rhetoric, intercultural communication, media and cultural studies, film and television studies, video production, computer animation and interactive media, or journalism. Graduates of the school will possess the necessary technical and/or professional orientation to qualify for jobs in business or institutions that desire effective communicators, as well as the background needed to pursue further education in communication or related fields.

The School’s graduate program offers advanced study of a broad range of topics within a liberal arts context.
