Citrus Research
The Citrus Research and Development Foundation - Disease Research
The Citrus Research and Development Foundation is pleased to announce its August 2009 Request for Proposals. Citrus cultivation is threatened by a very serious disease called Citrus Greening or Huanglongbing (HLB). Symptoms are latent, and then become lethal. The spread and cause of HLB are associated with a phloem feeding insect (Asian Citrus Psyllid) and a fastidious bacterium (Candidatus Liberibacter). The overall goals of this research program are to rapidly find both short- and long-term solutions to the current disease crises affecting the Florida citrus industry. Projects should be planned so they facilitate rapid commercialization of solutions. Deadlines: October 2, 2009: Preproposal Submission, Proposal Submission (by invitation only): December, 2009. Open Society Institute - Promoting Transparency and Equity in the Economic Recovery in Colorado, Florida, and Louisiana
The Open Society Institute (OSI) requests proposals to support alliances of state-based organizations working to ensure that federal and state economic recovery efforts are transparent and accountable, benefit those most in need, and enhance equity rather than reinforce structures of inequality. In July, the Open Society Institute issued a request for proposals http://www.soros.org/initiatives/usprograms/focus/special/news/staterfp_20090723 from state-based advocates in New York, California, Texas, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. They are now issuing a second request directed at groups in Louisiana, Florida, and Colorado. OSI seeks to fund alliances that will: (1) seek comprehensive and timely collection and dissemination of recovery-related spending data; (2) advocate for equitable spending; (3) promote a strong social safety net; (4) spotlight the role of decision-makers in the success or failure of economic recovery programs. OSI plans to fund alliances that will seek comprehensive and timely collection and dissemination of recovery-related spending data, advocate for equitable spending, promote a strong social safety net, and spotlight the role of decision makers in the success or failure of economic recovery programs. OSI will consider grants of up to $500,000 per state to be distributed over two years. Deadline: October 8, 2009.
