We have agreed to have our next collective bargaining session with the FAU Chapter of the UFF on Tuesday, May 6th at 1 p.m. in the Provost’s Conference Room.
Previous update
FAU/UFF and FAU/BOT held a collective bargaining meeting on Thursday, November 15th. Two articles of the contract were discussed: Article 12 (Non-reappointment) and Article 23 (Salaries). The Article 12 issue concerns notice of non-reappointment. FAU/BOT presented a counter-proposal to a UFF/FAU proposal to change notice of non-reappointment. UFF is considering the counter-proposal.
The Article 23 issue concerns faculty raises for the academic year 2007-2008. Earlier, representatives of the Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees and the Florida Atlantic University Chapter of the United Faculty of Florida signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) addressing the $1,000 bonus provided by the Florida Legislature and the promotion increases provided by the Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees. Both of these have already been distributed to employees of the bargaining unit.
On June 6, 2007 UFF presented a faculty raise proposal consisting of a 3% general increase for faculty with a satisfactory annual evaluation, a 2% market equity increase, and a 2% merit increase. The FAU/BOT has not responded to this offer because of fiscal uncertainty. At the November 15th bargaining meeting, the FAU/BOT stated that the administration was not prepared to present a counter-proposal because the data from a recent state revenue estimating conference indicate that Universities may have to return additional money that had been appropriated for academic year 2007-2008. The FAU/BOT does not know when the fiscal picture will be clearer.
