United Faculty of Florida

The United Faculty of Florida (UFF) is the organization for higher education faculty and professionals in Florida . With chapters in eleven state-supported universities, ten community colleges, two independent universities, and three graduate assistant organizations, the UFF is one of the largest higher education unions in the nation. At the state and national levels, the UFF and its affiliates present a unified voice of support for higher education at the highest echelons. At the chapter level, we ensure that the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the UFF and FAU's Board of Trustees is followed and enforced. We arbitrate disputes and grievances that may arise between a faculty member and the administration. We negotiate for wages and working conditions that are conducive to the professional development of faculty and other professionals. We consult with the FAU President and Board of Trustees to make them aware of issues of concern. And, of course, we have numerous social functions to increase fellowship within the FAU community. Membership is voluntary (Florida is a "Right to Work" state), but all in the bargaining unit benefit from the hard work of the union leadership and the involvement of the union rank and file. The 1% of salary that is taken in dues is more than compensated for by wage increases that the UFF negotiates. Without a large base of support, the UFF cannot achieve its goal of improving faculty conditions at FAU, so we urge all faculty to join the UFF as early in their career as possible.
For information, contact: Anita Pritchard, UFF President, pritchar@fau.edu
