What is wireless computing? The FAU wireless network allows you to connect to the FAU network via a portable computing device, such as a laptop. That means that you not only have network access, but access to those resources that are available only via the FAU network, such as shared drives.
Technical specifics: FAU's wireless network uses 2.4 GHz band. Access points directly connected to the wired network act as transceivers for these radio frequency signals. Currently, all FAU wireless equipment is in compliance with the IEEE 802.11b specification for wireless ethernet connectivity. This, however, is subject to change for reasons of improving security.
Where can I use wireless computing?
What do I need to use wireless computing on FAU campuses?
- Laptop or other portable computing device configured for DHCP addressing.
- Wireless card for your laptop
- FAUNetID and password and have activated it for Active Directory (if you currently can log into a desktop computer on campus or to a computer in a lab, you've already activated the account -- use that account when you set up your wireless on your laptop).
