About the Lecture
Harbor Branch researchers have teamed up with the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration to explore and characterize the diverse and beautiful habitats in the Flower Garden Banks, a reef system 100 miles off the coast of Texas. Join Dr. Voss for an evening of underwater enchantment with images, videos, and new findings from this spectacular ocean oasis.
About the Speaker
Dr. Joshua Voss is an Assistant Research Professor in HBOI’s Marine Ecosystem Health and Robertson Coral Reef Research and Conservation Programs. He has 12 years of experience in coral reef ecology, focusing on coral health and the environmental factors that influence coral degradation in the wider Caribbean. His research integrates experimental and field monitoring approaches with advanced molecular techniques to understand the short- and long-term effects of stress and disease on coral physiology and ecology.
Dr. Voss has led more than 20 scientific expeditions and completed over 1000 scientific dives primarily in the Bahamas, Florida Keys, Dry Tortugas, and Gulf of Mexico with additional investigations in Panama, Curacao, Bonaire, Dominica, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and St. Eustatius. Dr. Voss currently serves as co-principal investigator on three projects in the NOAA Cooperative Institute for Exploration, Research, and Technology based at HBOI, and as an instructor in HBOI’s Semester by the Sea Program and Florida Atlantic University's Biology Graduate Program.
