The mission of Campus Recreation is to enhance the quality of life of the Florida Atlantic University community by encouraging active and balanced lifestyles and to facilitate student learning through participation in Campus Recreation programs, services and facilities.
CAMPUS RECREATION FACILITIES:
FAU Recreation & Fitness Center is a $19 million state-of-the-art facility designed to meet the recreation and fitness needs of students and the FAU community.
- Phase I opened January 2009 and includes: a fitness center with cardio equipment, two circuit training units, free weight area and stretching area; two fitness performance rooms designed for yoga, pilates, aerobics, spinning and more; men’s and women’s health club style locker rooms; multi-purpose gymnasium for basketball, volleyball and special events.
- Rec Center Expansion or Phase II is expected to open Spring 2010 and includes: expanded fitness center will provide approximately 11,000 sq. ft. of total space to meet your fitness needs; Multipurpose Activity Court (MAC) will be an additional full size basketball court; leisure and lap pool will be a 17,000 sq. ft. aquatic facility that includes a zero depth beach entry leisure pool, bench seating and three (3) - 25 yard lap lanes; student and member lounge to relax before and after a workout; expanded locker rooms to accommodate our new spaces; food service area will offer healthy snacks and drinks for users
Track & Field Complex includes a state-of-the-art synthetic turf field dedicated for student recreation use and eight-lane performance track.
Aquatic Complex consists of 50-meter and 25-yard pools that have dedicated recreational swim hours each day.
Outdoor Basketball & Tennis Courts are lighted and available year-round for student recreation use.
Henderson Rec Fields are the home of numerous Intramural Sports and Club Sports practices and competitions. The lighted fields are also available for open rec use and special events.
CAMPUS RECREATION PROGRAMS:
Intramural Sports offer students and Rec Members the opportunity to participate in various different competitive sports and activities throughout the year. Get involved by forming a team or signing up as a free agent. Men’s, women’s and co-rec divisions are offered.
The Club Sports program promotes student participation in a variety of physical, athletic activities and allows students to engage in the activity of their choice at various skill levels. Clubs are open to men and women of all skill levels.
The Group Fitness is powered by high-energy music, challenging exercises, and the best instructors in Boca Raton. FAU Group Fitness makes it easy to meet your exercise needs by giving you a fun and effective workout that will keep you engaged and energized. Our classes are well-structured and tailored to each individual’s fitness level. Group Fitness offers a variety of formats that incorporate cardio, strength, core, dance, mind/body and more - there is a class for everyone.
Personal Training provides students and members the opportunity to work with certified personal trainers who are trainer to develop an exercise program specifically for you. From the novice to the elite athlete, FAU trainers have the knowledge and skill to work with you to achieve your fitness goals. Personal trainers design training programs while providing clients with the knowledge and tools to eventually develop a personalized program that can be modified and followed throughout life.
Fitness Center Orientations are available to those individuals who want to learn how to properly use fitness equipment with proper form. The Rec Center’s trained fitness staff is prepared to answer your questions about equipment use and set up.
All facilities and programs are available to students with a valid FAU ID card. Faculty and staff members are eligible to purchase a rec membership for access to facilities and programs.The Department of Campus Recreation is funded by Student Government Association through Activity and Service (A&S) fees which are paid by students with your tuition.
