The USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships program awarded 639 new and
renewal scholarships totaling $941,250 to deserving college-bound students in Florida for the 2008-2009 academic year.

BankAtlantic Monthly Scholarship  (website, application)

$200 scholarship will be awarded to eligible students for the month.  Application Deadline is November 30, 2009.  For more information please refer to application and website links above.  

Various Navy Scholarship Programs (website)

Health Professions Scholarship Program:  For Optometry, Medical and Dental School Students - Pays full tuition, books, fees and a monthly stipend of $1,185.

Nurse Candidate Program:  For Nursing Students - Pays $500 a month up to 24 months and an accession bonus of $5,000.

Baccalaureate Degree Completion Plan:  Pays up to $54,000 to complete college.

The degree is your choice:  Available careers in aviation, business management, engineering, nuclear, intelligence, and other exciting professions

As a Naval Officer, you’ll step right into a management role.

Bonuses available for nuclear engineering officers.

Health Services Collegiate Program:  For Dental, Optometry, Pharmacy and other allied health students - Pays approximately $2,100 a month up to 36 months. Medical and Dental insurance provided.

Spencer Foundation Dissertation Fellowships
(website, application)

Through the Dissertation Fellowship Program, the Spencer Foundation aims to build capacity in the education research community by supporting a new generation of scholars from a wide range of fields. Please refer to the website or .pdf application link for more details.

Bank of America Florida's Community Scholars Program (website, application)

Awards of $2,000 per year for first-time-in-college freshmen entering a state public university. Students must demonstrate financial need; please complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility. Recipient must demonstrate a history of community service and must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Award will be evenly divided between fall and spring terms. The student must maintain continuous enrollment, and scholarship eligibility will not exceed a maximum of eight semesters. For more information, please visit website link above.

FANJUL Academic and Community Excellence Award (website, application)

Awards of $2,500 per year, renewable for up to four years for students who maintain good academic standing while enrolled at FAU. The Fanjul award is designed to recognize students who have worked for academic excellence and have demonstrated leadership service in their community. This award is only available to students in western Palm Beach County who attend Pahokee, Clewiston and Glades Central High Schools , and who are planning to enroll at Florida Atlantic University as first year freshmen. Students must have an overall GPA of 3.0 and a minimum 1000 SAT-I or 21 ACT score. Please visit the website link above for additional eligibility requirements.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship (website, application)

The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers a competition for awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for US undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. National Scholars Honor Society Scholarship (website)

The Society strives to reward and encourage personal growth and development, as well as engender a sense of civic responsibility and dedication to our nation's great political process. Our Members include thousands of America's brightest minds and top achievers in the Arts, the Sciences, Medicine, Law, Business and Politics. The National Scholars Honor Society grants scholarships to highly qualified achievers from all academic pursuits. Scholarship eligibility is determined for each new applicant at the time of acceptance, and is reviewed biannually for as long as the member continues to update his file on an annual basis.  $19,000 will be awarded in scholarships.  Check out the website for more details and the membership online application.

All applicants will be automatically considered for the Abraham Lincoln Scholarship, the Alexander Bell Scholarship, the Thomas Jefferson Scholarship, and the Benjamin Franklin Scholarship after acceptance into the Society.

FBI - Common Knowledge Scholarship  (website, register)

This scholarship is based on what you know.  Four (4) $1000 first place cash scholarships will be awarded every week during the month of December. No essays, no minimum GPA, or financial background information  is required.  Register at the link located above to find out more information.

Walmart Foundation Scholarship (website)

Students across the country benefit significantly from Wal-Mart's involvement in their town and surrounding communities. Sallie Mae Fund Scholarships (website)

Delivered through The Fund's Project Access program, these scholarships target low income and minority populations in an effort to increase access to higher education. Project Access addresses three key barriers to higher education-awareness of financial aid, academic performance and financial need. To be eligible for The Sallie Mae Fund scholarship programs, students must be accepted and enrolled at a Title IV eligible, accredited post-secondary two- or four-year college or university, vocational, or technical school in the United States or Puerto Rico and meet program-specific eligibility requirements. The Sallie Mae Fund scholarship programs include:

  • The Sallie Mae Fund "First in My Family Scholarship Program" (application) The First in My Family Scholarship Program, developed in partnership with the Hispanic College Fund, offers scholarships to Hispanic-American students who are the first in their family to attend college and have financial need. The program is open to Hispanic Americans who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents enrolled as full time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). Deadline to apply is April 15, 2009.

  • The Sallie Mae Fund "American Dream Scholarship Program" (application) In partnership with the United Negro College Fund, is open to African Americans with financial need. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, with a minimum 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), who meet Pell Grant eligibility criteria, and are enrolled full time at approved, accredited, undergraduate institutions. Deadline to apply is April 15, 2009.

  • The Sallie Mae Fund "Unmet Need" Scholarship" (application) Open to families with a combined income of $30,000 or less, this program is intended to supplement financial aid packages that fall more than $1,000 short of students' financial need. This scholarship is not designed as a substitute for aid provided by an institution.  The Unmet Need Scholarship program is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are accepted or enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Students must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) to be eligible to apply. Recipients will be selected based on financial need. This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America and will open on April 1 and will close on May 31.
  • The Sallie Mae Fund "Community College Transfer Scholarship" (application) Offered in collaboration with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, this program provided scholarships to Latino students transferring from a community college to an approved, accredited higher education institution.  If you have specific questions about this program that are not answered on HSF's website, please email HSF or call 1-877-473-4636.
  • The Sallie Mae Fund "911 Education Fund" Scholarship (application) - The Sallie Mae 911 Education Fund was created in response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The scholarship program is open to children of those who were killed or permanently disabled as a result of the terrorist attacks and who are enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Scholarship awards of up to $2,500 per applicant, per school year, may be renewed annually, subject to satisfactory academic progress.  Deadline to submit application and other documents to the FAU Office of Student Financal Aid is May 1, 2009.

This program has been established to assist thousands of military personnel each year pursue post secondary career education at hundreds of career colleges across the nation. National Law Enforcement & Firefighters Children's Foundation  (info & app)

The National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children’s Foundation Scholarship Awards are for children of law enforcement and firefighting personnel who were lost in the line of duty. These awards are designed to reward excellence, recognize accomplishments and help students by providing funding for their post secondary education at qualified institutions. Broward Shell Club Scholarship


This scholarship is available for undergraduate or graduate students majoring in the field of marine biology at local colleges or universities.  The guidelines for the award are very simple. The student's coursework should include some aspect of malacology (taxonomy, habitat studies, pollution effects, DNA analysis, etc.) and the applicant will be requested to make a presentation to the Club about their research and how the award assisted them in their goals. Stop by the Financial Aid office on the Boca campus to obtain a copy of the application.


The MSSM Friendship Scholarship
  (website)

Christine McFadden created the MSSM (named after Melanie, Stanley, Stuart, and Michelle) Friendship Scholarship must possess the characteristics of friendship - such as the loyalty, service, and compassion that Christine's children exhibited.  A friend of the applicant must write a recommendation letter.  Any student can apply - an applicant doesn't have to be class president or have top grades.  Recipients, though, must maintain a 2.5 grade point average.  For more information or to make a donation, call (209) 722-MSSM or click on the website link above.

Michael Jon Barlin Scholarship (website)

The Lupus Foundation of America, Southeast Florida Chapter, is privileged to offer an annual scholarship to support the educational expenses of a Southeast Florida resident diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.  Applicant must be a resident of Brevard, Broward, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Palm Beach, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie.  Applicant must also submit letter for physician stating condition and must have at least a GPA of 2.5.  For more information on this scholarship and the application, click on the website link above.

Freedom Forum/ NCAA Sports Journalism Scholarship (application)


This scholarship is seeking scholarship applications from college juniors with career goals in sports journalism, majors in journalism or experience in campus sports journalism.  This program is available to assist and promote quality sports journalism education at the collegiate level.  Applicants must be enrolled full-time. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. Eight one-year renewable scholarships will be awarded to juniors who will be full-time seniors in the 2009-2010 academic year. Florida Fund for Minority Teacher Education  Scholarship (website, application)

Currently accepting applications from college junior and seniors in approved teacher education programs.  In addition, applicant must be a member of one of the following racial groups: African, American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American/Pacific Islander, or American Indian/Alaskan Native.  The deadline to apply is July 1, 2009 for Fall 2009 and November 15, 2009 for Spring 2010.  For additional eligibility details and to obtain an application, click on the website link above.


Military Officers Association of America (MOAACC) - Cape Canaveral Chapter

This scholarship is being offered to descendents of active and retired military personnel who have completed at least two years in a four-year program at an accredited college or university toward a bachelors degree. The application process is electronic. There are 4 forms to download. The Student Checklist is the first form you should open and read. Business and Professional Women/Jupiter Scholarship (website, application)

FNGLA Action Chapter Scholarship (website, application)

Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA) is accepting applications from applicants pursuing a degree in Environmental Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Floriculture, or a related field.  Applicants must be enrolled at least half-time at a Florida university or junior college and have a GPA of at least 2.75.  The applications must be postmarked no later than June 21, 2009.  For additional eligibility details and to obtain an application, click on the links above.


Roy W. Likins Scholarship (website, application)

The Florida Section American Water Works Association will award scholarships to eligible students pursuing a degree relating to the drinking water industry.  This scholarship will provide reimbursement of tuition, books and fees through the College/University Financial Aid department over the upcoming 2 years.  Awarded to both upper-level undergraduate and graduate students who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.  Also demonstrating academic achievement, integrity, and leadership in community and civic activities, and showing outstanding potential to be a leader in the drinking water industry. Edmond Amateis Foundation Scholarship (application)

Frederick W. & Grace P. Brecht Scholarship (application)

This scholarship is available to students from Brevard County, Florida attending any community college or university in the state of Florida.  Applicants must demonstrate financial need, have at least a 2.0 GPA and be of good moral character.  Deadline to submit application and other documents is May 15, 2009.  Click on the application link above for more details on eligibility criteria and instructions.

Young Minority Entrepreneurs Essay Scholarship (more info)

Candidate must be a Palm Beach County High School Senior or Higher Ed Student and must have applied to and been accepted at an accredited higher educational institution (i.e. College, University, or Technical School).  Enrollment in a higher education program must be able to be verified. Talbots Scholarship Foundation (more info & application)

This program empowers women to enrich themselves through learning and achieve a college education later in life.  This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services®, a division of Scholarship America®. Scholarship Management Services is the nation's largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Vanguard Scholarship Program (more info & application)

This scholarship program provides merit-based scholarships to minority students pursuing studies in business, finance, economics, accounting, information technology, or the liberal arts.  To be considered, you must be entering your senior year of college in fall 2010; be a member of a racial minority; be enrolled full-time in a four-year accredited college or university in the United States; be pursuing studies in business, finance, economics, accounting, information technology, or the liberal arts; have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; and be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States.  Application deadline is November 30, 2009.  For more information, click on the link above.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (more info & application)

The Graduate Research Fellowship provides three years of support for graduate study leading to research-based master’s or doctoral degrees and is intended for students who are in the early stages of their graduate study. American Association of University Women - Doris Karlik Scholarship (application)

The Northern Palm Beach County Branch awards a scholarship to a female student, residing in Palm Beach County, studying for the AA, AS, BA or BS degree or a certificated program equivalent to one of the degree programs listed, and who demonstrates financial need. The completed form, evidence of Palm Beach County residency, an essay, official transcript and two letters of recommendation should be submitted along with the application. U.S. Bank's Internet Scholarship (website)

Anne Brewster ITS Florida Scholarship (application)
This scholarship is sponsored by PBS&J and notes the company's strong commitment to education. MENSA Education & Research Foundation Scholarship (application)
This scholarship program bases its awards totally on essays written by the applicants.  Applicants must currently be a resident of a participating American MENSA local group, be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited U.S. institution and must submit an application and essay explaining career, academic and/or vocational goals.  All applications must be postmarked by January 15, 2010.  Click on the link above for more information.


Undergraduate Society Scholarship (application)
American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is accepting applicaitons for this scholarship.  Applicants must be full-time at an accredited engineering or engineering technology program recognized by ASHRAE with a cumulative GPA of at 3.0.  Applicants must also submit three letters of recommendation, demonstrate financial need, leadership ability and work ethics.  The application deadline is December 1, 2009 for Undergraduate Engineering, Regional & University Scholarships and May 1, 2010 for Engineering Technology Scholarships.  Click on the application link above for more details and the scholarship application.



Florida Surveying & Mapping Society Scholarship (application)
The Space Coast Chapter of FSMS is offering scholarships to students pursuing courses in Geomatics and Land Surveying.
