It is time to fill out your 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the upcoming 2008-2009 academic school year (FALL 2008, SPRING 2009 & SUMMER 2009). The FAU priority deadline isMarch 1, 2008.All applications received after that date will be reviewed in order of receipt. Apply online to save time and effort. When filling out the application, make sure to complete the planned housing code (on Step 6, Housing Plan, on your FAFSA form) with your appropriate housing status, since leaving this section blank could result in underfunding. If you have already submitted your 2008-2009 FAFSA, check the Money Matters! tab on MyFAU (click on "View 2008-2009 Financial Aid Information") to verify if additional documents are required. Any documents listed under the Unsatisfied Requirements section MUST be submitted to this Office as soon as possible so that we can determine your eligibility for aid. Incomplete or inaccurate responses will cause lengthy delays in the evaluation of your financial aid eligibility. Award offers will not be available until all documentation is submitted and satisfied. Verification Worksheets for Dependent and Independent Students can be downloaded from this (click on Forms to Download link on left). Submit only ORIGINAL citizenship documents, if requested.
Federal regulations require students to demonstrate Satisfactory Academic Progress toward a degree in order to be eligible to receive financial assistance under Title IV Programs. Academic progress for financial aid applicants is review prior to disbursing financial aid each academic year and is based on total cumulative credits attempted at FAU at the end of the student's most recently complete term, regardless of whether the student has previously received financial aid. Students who are NOT meeting this requirement have been notified via their FAU email account regarding the specifics and the procedure to request an appeal. Log on to MyFAU to check status.

Students requesting financial aid for the SUMMER 2008 must have a 2007 – 2008 FAFSA on file, in addition to submitting the SUMMER 2008 Financial Aid Application (located on under the Money Matters! tab on MyFAU). Students must be attending half time (defined as 6 or more credits for undergraduate students and 3 or more credits for graduate students) to be eligible for financial aid disbursement (specific cases of Federal Pell Grant funding and certain private loan products may be exceptions). As possible State of Florida budget limitations may reduce course availability. Summer 2008 financial aid will NOT disburse to students whose half time attendance status is dependent on courses where the drop/add deadline is in the Second Half Term of the Summer 2008 session commencing June 23, 2008.
The SUMMER 2008 Financial Aid application will be available exclusively online beginning February 1, 2008. The application is located on MyFAU (click on the Money Matters! tab). Sign up for Direct Deposit online and have your financial aid refund deposited into your bank account instead of waiting for a check to arrive in the mail. The Direct Deposit Form is available on MyFAU and click on the Money Matters tab. Click here for more details.
The Short Term Advance application for SUMMER 2008 is available onMyFAU (click on the Money Matters tab). The Short Term Advance is an University monetary advance for purchasing textbooks or other unanticipated expenses. Funds will be directly deposited into the student’s existing bank account (preferably with BankAtlantic); however funds can be direct deposited into your existing financial institution. Click here for more details and eligibility requirements. NOTE: Short Term Advance funds will NOT be disbursed before the first day of classes.
Students will need their FAU Z Number when applying for a Short Term Advance. Bank account information will no longer be needed when filling out this application; however, to view or establish direct deposit for short term loans or financial aid refunds, log on to MyFAU and click on the New FAU Self-Service (OWLS) link on the homepage and follow the links to direct deposit.
NOTE:If student is under 18 years of age, please complete and submit the Parental Short Term Advance Application. In addition, submit the Direct Deposit Form (located on MyFAU and click on FAU Self-Service link on the homepage and follow the links to direct deposit).
If you withdraw from a class and are a recipient of Title IV financial aid (i.e. Pell Grant, Stafford Loans, SEOG, Perkins Loan), you must be able to provide documentation that you attended a minimum of one day of each class that you dropped. Acceptable forms of documentation include a signed memorandum from faculty on FAU letterhead, graded quiz/test or assignment, or an email to the Financial Aid Office from the faculty FAU email account.
If you HAVE NOT previously borrowed a Federal Stafford Loan through FAU, or if your last Federal Stafford Loan from FAU was borrowed prior to the 2001-2002 academic year, download the Lender Designation Form for Federal Stafford Loan Borrowers. Complete the required items on this document (name, SSN, date, and lender designation). This form MUST be read, signed and returned to the Office of Student Financial Aid. Students who must report parental information on the FAFSA should report all qualified educational benefits or education savings accounts owned by the parents - including Coverdall savings accounts, 529 college savings plans, and the refund value of 529 state prepaid tuition plans - in question 88. If the account is owned by a student who must report parental information, the value of the account is not to be reported. If the account is owned by a student (or the student's spouse) who is not reporting parental information, the value is to be reported as an investment - in question 44.

The student financial aid programs are administered, according to a nationally accepted policy, that the family (meaning parents, student and/or spouse) is responsible for educational expenses. Financial aid is available to supplement a family's contribution in order to help students meet the cost of post-secondary education.
