SHAKESPEARE: GETTING DOWN ‘N DIRTY

Laura Wayth

DESCRIPTION: Shakespeare: Getting Down ‘n Dirty! We all know that Shakespeare wrote some of the most beautiful words about love ever written in the English language. But there’s a seamier side to the bard. His plays are full of sexual puns and metaphor, bawdiness, seediness and scatology. In this one-time lecture we will take a look at sex in Shakespeare’s time, and dig into the Elizabethan underbelly, as we get Down ‘n Dirty with Mr. Shakespeare. We will see that Shakespeare’s entertainment isn’t too much different than our popular tastes today. There will be something for everyone- Shakespeare novices and aficionados are all welcome to attend.
