Course Description:  Cole Porter and Irving Berlin are two of the most accomplished composers of the great American songbook.  Despite the fact that each came from remarkably different backgrounds their music has attained universal appeal.  This course will review the music and life stories of Cole Porter and Irving Berlin and will describe the similarities and differences between these two composers.  With Chet on the piano and Marlene narrating the story and singing the music, attendees will be treated to an educational and entertaining program based on the lives of these two incredible men of music.

Biographical Information:  Marlene and Chet Solender are music historians and entertainers who have been bringing their knowledge and love of Musical Theater to audiences in New York, Florida and cruise ship venues for over 25 years.  Using their unique entertainment skills, the stories and anecdotal tales of composers, lyricists and Broadway figures are punctuated by the music of the time.  With Chet on the piano and Marlene narrating and providing the vocals, they fill the room with story and song.  They continually receive accolades from audiences who love their format and who leave the theater humming the songs of the famous Broadway personalities.

As a university professor, Marlene has extensive lecturing experience.  As an entertainer, she has appeared in community Broadway productions and local solo venues.  Both Marlene and Chet have exciting personalities, superb social skills and a keen sense of humor.

This dynamic couple offers an exciting, entertaining and educational series of lectures with music featuring the composers and characters of the Musical Theater.  Each topic has its own intrigue and color.
