THE COMPLETE ORCHESTRA: 
FROM COMPOSITION TO CONDUCTING

Instructor:  Maestro Aaron Kula

Course Description:  This new course offering will appeal to the music aficionado or anyone who has the desire to learn about orchestral music as an insider of the profession.  Maestro Kula unveils the mysteries of the music through the eyes of the composer and conductor.  The two part series begins with a feast for the ears through sample recordings and concludes with the practice of conducting works by the great masters.  The lectures are similar to a mini-conservatory seminar setting.

Four Lectures:

1 – 2.          The Compositions from Bach to Bartok:  A Listening Experience.
                  Listen and learn how the great composers created compositions and orchestrations that exemplify the development of music in western civilization.  We will examine the sound types and characteristics of different composers and what musical developments led to the expansion of the orchestra such as larger string, wind, brass, and percussion sections.

3 – 4.          The Maestro within Me.  Learn the basics of orchestral conducting:  baton technique, best patterns, tempo, cueing, expressions and dynamics.  Repertoire will be the great masters from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras.usic from different historical periods and countries -- Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Mahler, Berlioz, Debussy, Ravel, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Stravinsky, Bartok, Ives, Gershwin, Copland and Bernstein.

Biographical Information
:  Maestro Aaron Kula began his musical studies at the Hebrew Arts School in New York City and The Rubin Academy in Israel.  He received his Master of Music in Conducting and Theory with Distinction in Performance from New England Conservatory and a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Judaic Studies from the University of Minnesota.  He is a respected orchestral, ballet and choral conductor and is a nationally recognized music educator.   He is the Music Director of the Klezmer Company Orchestra.
