ESSENTIAL ISSUES FACING THE
UNITED STATES IN THE NEXT DECADE

Course Description: Based upon media headlines and cutting-edge scholarship, Professor Prier will identify and analyze six of the most challenging issues facing the citizens and government of the United States in the next few years. Each lecture will include issue background and evolution and winners and losers of public policy. He will set aside time each week for questions and answers.

1. Clashing Branches and Unitary Executive Theory
2. Supreme Court Decision-making and Other Judicial Issues
3. Privatizing Basic Governmental Functions and Government Accountability
Set Two:
4. Immigration
5. Consumer and Government Debt and Deficits
6. Healthcare and Social Security
Biographical Information: Dr. Eric Prier is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at FAU. As a regular presenter and participant at national and international conferences, Dr. Prier has published on democratic institutions, anti-corruption strategies, and public procurement policy. He is an international consultant and author of the book, The Myth of Representation.
