DESCRIPTION: This one-time lecture will focus on educating patrons about how the research of the Southeast National Maritime Renewable Energy Center (SNMREC) is making a unique contribution to a broadly diversified portfolio of renewable energy for the nation’s future. Ms. Skemp has developed a multi-disciplinary program to address exploration and evaluation of ocean energy potential. SNMREC is now poised to begin testing an experimental research turbine, and is awaiting approval and a federal lease to install and operate a small-scale turbine test berth offshore at Fort Lauderdale.
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Susan Skemp is the Executive Director of the SNMREC. She has a broad background in industry, federal policy, and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). She had a 31-year career at Pratt & Whitney, where she was instrumental in leading a number of research and technical programs.
