LARRY
KING’S STORY:
TOLD BY HIS SEVEN WIVES
Myrna Goldberger
Recipient of the LLS 1999 Excellence in Teaching AwardDESCRIPTION: From his recognizable suspenders, to his identifiable voice, Larry King has become an American icon. Known as “Zeek the Greek” because he never stopped talking, Larry King took advantage of luck, contacts and talent to rise to the top as a talk-show host, conducting more than 40,000 interviews and marrying seven women because he wouldn’t sleep with them unless he married them. From an immigrant background that included being on home relief, to being a waiter at a restaurant in Miami, and, finally, to the star-studded offices of CNN, Larry has shaped broadcast history. His career has included interviewing every president and first lady since the Nixons, as well as such controversial figures as Monica Lewinsky and O. J. Simpson. In this self-written one-act play, Myrna Goldberger presents the story of Larry King, an individual who made it big and has given much back to the community.
