SOME OF THE GREAT BROADWAY COMPOSERS:
A TRIBUTE (NARRATION BY IAN NAIRNSEY AND LIVE PERFORMANCE BY IRWIN GORDON)

Ian Nairnsey

DESCRIPTION: In these lectures we will discuss the background of Broadway composers and those they worked with assembling and performing musical plays. Narration and lecture by Ian Nairnsey will regale audiences with the show- business life of the composers, their methods of composition and work habits, as well as interesting anecdotes that arose from events during the staging of their plays on Broadway. The electronic background to Mr. Gordon’s vocals resembles the great orchestrations and accompaniments that provided the backing for the singers of the period. Gordon provides his own singing style that is contemporary with the great interpreters of the Standard American Song Book.

FOUR LECTURES:

  1. A Tribute to Cole Porter
  2. A Tribute to Irving Berlin
  3. A Tribute to George Gershwin
  4. A Potpourri of Songs from Different Composers

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Ian Nairnsey was educated in London, where he attended Westminster Public School, qualified as an attorney and practiced in London for 35 years. He is a permanent resident of Florida and now an American citizen. Considered an expert on Broadway and London musical theatre, he has given many courses on the subject over the years at the Lifelong Learning Society (LLS) at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), and at other venues. Irwin Gordon is a “natural singer.” This talent was exhibited at an early age when he was invited to a CBS studio school, the Ann Falk Studios. That influence helped him develop musicperformance skills. During his formative years, music played an important role, but later on, his life and a growing family caused him to shelve the music side for business. After a successful career, and with encouragement from family and friends, he returned to being a jazz singer. He has recorded three CD albums and is currently working on a fourth, all with the most-respected jazz musicians. He sings in many venues in Florida and New York. Gordon says of his singing, “ This is the most fun I ever had!”
