GEORGE
GERSHWIN: HIS LIFE AND MUSIC
A SPECIAL LIVE PERFORMANCE OF ERSHWIN’S BEST
Herb Keyser and Bett Butler
DESCRIPTION: The Golden Age of the great American Songbook began shortly after World War I and continued for many decades. Of the 30 greatest Broadway composers and lyricists, one name stands out—George Gershwin. He was able to make the bridge between the worlds of pop and classical music, and was universally recognized as an outstanding performer among his contemporaneous artists and composers. In their cover story article about him at the height of his career, Time magazine paid him homage by saying, “... Gershwin is to music what Charles Lindbergh was to aviation.” In this one-time, very special live performance, Dr. Herb Keyser and Bett Butler will bring you Gershwin’s life story through commentary and his unforgettable music. Bett has an extraordinary performing style and talent, and it will be a challenge for attendees to repress the urge to sing along with her and Herb in this one-time presentation of the life and music of one of America’s greatest. At the end of the performance, attendees are invited to meet Butler and Keyser at a book- signing of Keyser’s latest work.
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Dr. Herb Keyser, obstetrician-gynecologist, is the author of five books, the latest being Geniuses of the American Musical Theatre. He has made many appearances on Nightline with Ted Koppel, the Regis Philbin Show, CNN, HBO, and on many television and radio shows, both network and regional. For the past eight years, he has performed at sea on prestigious cruise lines, presenting the stories of the life and music of Broadway geniuses. Keyser, along with Bett Butler, has appeared in many sold-out performances in New York, Texas and Florida.
