KLEZMER EAST:
A HANUKKAH CONCERT TO LIGHT UP THE HOLIDAY

Paul Green

DESCRIPTION: Hanukkah is a festive holiday, and Klezmer East, South Florida’s renowned Klezmer group, continues the celebratory tradition by giving a concert that explores and celebrates the holiday. Some of the songs you’ll know Oh Hanukkah and the Dreidel song; and some might be new to you, such as Ocho Candelikas, a Ladino song—but they will all put you in the mood for latkes (potato pancakes) and applesauce (or sour cream)! Klezmer East, led by virtuoso clarinetist Paul Green, will also perform your favorite traditional tunes in the Klezmer tradition. The six-piece band features players on keyboard, drums, trombone, trumpet, vocals, and, of course, the requisite Klezmer clarinet, played by Paul Green himself!

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Jazz clarinetist Paul Green began his musical studies at an early age, and by age 13 performed and recorded Saint-Saens’ “Carnival of the Animals” in Leonard Bernstein’s Young People’s Concert with the New York Philharmonic. His music degrees are from Yale University, the Juilliard School, and Florida International University (FIU). A former attorney and law professor, Green has performed at chamber music festivals in Moldova,
China, Korea, Mexico, Austria, and throughout the United States. In 1997 he was an Artistic Ambassador for the US Information Agency, touring Moldova and the Middle East. Currently, he is a faculty member at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Green is the director of Klezmer East, a member of the Nodus Ensemble in residence at FIU, Principal Clarinetist of the Florida Grand Opera and Atlantic Classical Orchestra, and a faculty member of the Berkshire Music School. He has recently relocated to the northeast, where he is Co-director of the Berkshires Summer Celebration of Jewish Music, but he continues to teach and perform in South Florida.
