Dr. Bruce Mallen is the Director of the Carl DeSantis Center for Motion Picture Studies. He has many years of experience in the academic and business worlds. Mallen holds double bachelor and double masters degrees (Columbia University and University of Michigan). Also he received a Ph.D. from New York University, was a Ford Foundation fellow, and is the recipient of an honorary Doctor of Science degree. He was a professor at Concordia University in Montreal (prior to age 30, the youngest tenured and full professor in that university’s 70 year history), chair of Graduate Studies, Interim Dean, Visiting Scholar at UCLA, and Visiting Professor at the University of Southern California where he helped establish its School of Cinema’s Master of Fine Arts Motion Picture Producing Program. A prolific writer, Mallen has authored or co-authored approximately 85 books and professional journal articles on marketing, economics, and film financing, and was a pioneering author on distribution channel economics. He served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Marketing for over a decade, as well as on other professional journals.

In addition to his academic achievements, he is an experienced and successful businessman, as a commercial real estate developer and owner (including the $95 million office complex in Los Angeles, CA, now called the Sony Pictures Plaza), and motion picture financier/entrepreneur/producer.

Bruce Mallen is a member of the Producers Guild of America, the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, and the Society for Cinema Studies. He served on the Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission, and is Vice Chair of the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. In 1990, he received the New York University’s Stern School of Business Alumni Achievement Award for Distinction in the Entertainment Industry. He recently was honored with the International Business Leader of the Year Award by the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce.
