FAUs Memory and Wellness Center Brings Awareness to National Alzheimers Disease Awareness Month
BOCA RATON, FL (November 8, 2005) The Florida Atlantic University Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center, part of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, is hosting several events throughout the month of November to help bring awareness to National Alzheimers Disease Awareness Month. The events are scheduled to take place in the Memory and Wellness Center on FAUs Boca Raton Campus.
FAUs Memory and Wellness Center is grounded in the concept of caring and dedicated to addressing the complex problems of memory impairment and aging through research, education and provision of care. Services offered by the Center include comprehensive memory evaluations conducted by a multi-disciplinary team, recommendations regarding intervention strategies and treatments for memory problems, counseling for individuals and families, client and family education and support, house calls to the homebound, consultations to physicians and/or residential care facilities and an adult day center on site.
November events include
A Remembrance and Recognition Reception will take place on Thursday, November 10 from noon to 2 p.m. in Room 120 of the Memory and Wellness Center. Those who consider themselves caregivers of a person with memory loss are invited to the ceremony to honor the life contributions of those who have experienced memory loss and honor those who care for them. Free Memory Screening Day will be held on Tuesday, November 15 for anyone concerned that they might be developing memory problems. Confidential screening appointments may be set up by contacting Connie Simonetti at 561-297-0502.
A Caregiver Lecture Series Class will be given on Wednesday, November 16 from 10 a.m. to noon in Room 120 of the Memory and Wellness Center. Marie Herman, ARNP, will present Medication Update: What Caregivers Need to Know, and Mark Cornett, MS, will present Developing a Caregiver Back-up Plan. To reserve your seat, call 561-297-0502
New Volunteer Orientation will take place on Tuesday, November 29 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 120 of the Memory and Wellness Center. Volunteer opportunities range from working directly with people with memory loss to research, food service, office work and other activities.
