FAU Sponsors Yogathon to Benefit Hurricane Victims
BOCA RATON, FL (November 7, 2005) - Florida Atlantic Universitys Volunteer Centers and S.A.V.I. Agencies (Students Advocating Volunteer Involvement) are sponsoring a Yogathon to benefit hurricane victims. Bharata, a Lake Worth yoga instructor, is hosting the fund-raiser to benefit the American Red Cross hurricane relief effort. Asanas for Relief Yogathon will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 12 at the Live Oak Pavilion in Florida Atlantic Universitys University Center. Twelve hours of yoga and meditation sessions in various styles will culminate in the event finale, Kirtan singing and chanting, at 7 p.m. Participants are invited to attend single sessions of their choice or dedicate their entire day. Minimum donations of $15 are suggested and sponsorships are encouraged.
The project was created as a result of a Landmark Education leadership program. Part of the coursework of this program was to create a project that benefits the community.
This is a very important project for me. Im from the area south of New Orleans where Hurricane Katrina made its first landfall, said Bharata. Everyone I know in the area lost everything. Close friends who had a yoga center in New Orleans lost their center. Please help us help the American Red Cross, who in turn is helping so many people.
