FAU Hosts World AIDS Day Events
BOCA RATON, FL (November 18, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University will host a number of World AIDS Day events to prompt awareness on issues surrounding HIV/AIDS prevention, services and care to ensure a continued commitment and dedication to ending this pandemic. On a universal scale, World AIDS Day is annually designated as a time to reflect, memorialize and show compassion for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
The following events are scheduled -

On Tuesday, November 29, beginning at 11:30 a.m. on FAU's Boca Raton campus, an AIDS Awareness March will begin at the Alumni Plaza and proceed through the campus to the Live Oak Pavilion where a program will begin at noon. The featured speaker of the program is Fulbright Scholar Dr. Roosevelt Jean-Francois from FAU's College of Nursing, who will speak about the Haitian HIV/AIDS experience. In addition, an AIDS Memorial Quilt panel, that commemorates all FAU students, faculty and staff who have endured AIDS, will be showcased prior to the donation of the quilt to the national NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt organization. HIV/AIDS awareness will be promoted at the November 30 FAU men's basketball game and the December 1 FAU women's basketball game, both beginning at 7 p.m. in the FAU Arena (pending completion of repairs). A fundraiser to benefit the Farmworker Coordinating Council of Palm Beach County, Inc. is being planned. For more information on this event, contact Tina Kelly at 561-297-1041.

HIV testing will occur on many of FAU's campuses -
- A confidential, no-needle (oral) HIV testing by the Comprehensive AIDS Program of Palm Beach County, Inc. will be available to the general public on the Boca Raton campus on December 1 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Today and Beyond Wellness Center, Building 8, Room 222. - A confidential, no-needle HIV testing by Project Response will be available to the general public on November 29 at FAU's Treasure Coast campus. For more details, call 772-873-3300.
