FAU Wimberly Library Hosts
"Seeds of Change: the Earth Charter and Human Potential" Exhibit

WHAT: "Seeds of Change: the Earth Charter and Human Potential" exhibit
to feature video showings of "A Quiet Revolution," followed by discussions led by FAU professors and members of Soka Gakkai International (SGI) -USA, host of the exhibit. The 16-panel exhibit was initially created by SGI and the Earth Charter Initiative for the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa, where it won third place in the independent exhibits category. It has since been shown in more than 20 countries throughout the world. The FAU exhibit is the premier showing in the Southeast United States. It is on exhibit now through October 30, 2005

The accompanying video, "A Quiet Revolution" is narrated by Academy Award winning actress Meryl Streep. Amid widespread gloom about the state of the Earth's natural environment, the film offers hope by showing how the actions of ordinary people can affect problems of a global scale. It introduces the vision of Wangari Maathai, an African woman who founded Kenya's Green Belt Movement, through which tens of thousands of rural women have combated deforestation by planting twenty million trees. She is,a professor, biologist and the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize recipient for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace.
