FAU's Chamber Soloists Present First Concert of the Season
Concert to include music of Dvorak and Haydn

BOCA RATON, FL (October 20, 2005) - Celebrate 20 years of music-making in South Florida as Florida Atlantic University's Chamber Soloists kick off their season with two concerts presented by FAU faculty members, Judith Burganger and Leonid Treer, along with the Miami String Quartet. The first concert will be a Dvorak festival on Saturday, November 5 beginning at 2 p.m. in the Liberal Arts Auditorium at FAU's Davie Campus, 2912 College Avenue. There will be a repeat performance on Sunday, November 6 beginning at 3 p.m. in the University Theatre on FAU's Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. General admission is $15 with group discounts available. FAU students, faculty, staff and alumni may obtain free admission with ID.

The concert will include "Quartet for Two Violins, Viola and Cello" by Franz Joseph Haydn and two pieces by Antonin Dvorak - "Quartet for Piano, Violin, Viola and Cello" and "Quintet for Piano, Two Violins, Viola and Cello."

FAU's Chamber Soloists program was founded in 1985 by Burganger and Treer. Over the years, they have brought some of the world's leading ensembles and artists to FAU. The Miami String Quartet is one of the most sought-after quartets in chamber music today. The group was praised in The New York Times as having "everything one wants in a quartet: a rich, precisely balanced sound, a broad coloristic palette, real unity of interpretive purpose and seemingly unflagging energy." The quartet includes Ivan Chan, violin; Cathy Meng Robinson, violin; Chauncey Patterson, viola; and Keith Robinson, cello.

Burganger and Treer have developed a loyal following in South Florida. Burganger, who has a long international performing career, has been featured as a guest artist with such renowned orchestras as the Chicago Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, the American Symphony, the Toronto Symphony and others. Treer also has a distinguished performing career, having performed with prominent ensembles such as the Lark, Biava, Audubon and Alexander Quartets. Furthermore, Burganger and Treer were invited to perform concerts and teach master classes in two of the world's most prestigious music conservatories, The Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.

The Dvorak festival is the first Chamber Soloists concert of the season. Other concerts include the Cuarteto Latinoamericano with Heather Coltman, featuring works by Haydn, Evangelista, Del Aguila and Schumann, on December 10 and 11; "Roots of Classical Music: Caucasian Sketches" with Leonid Treer on March 18 and 19; and a concert of Brahms, Dvorak and Beethoven with Judith Burganger, Leonid Treer and the Gagliano String Trio on April 8 and 9. Package prices for all four concerts are available.
