FAU Libraries Present "Inspiration Beyond the Canvas," Painting and Photography Exhibit by Terryl Best Lawrence at MacArthur Campus Library, Oct 23 - Dec 9, 2005
BOCA RATON, FL (October 19, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University Libraries present award-winning artist and photographer Terryl Best Lawrence's exhibit "Inspiration Beyond the Canvas" at FAU's MacArthur Campus Library, which features six exceptional paintings and photographs, to be on display from October 23 through December 9, 2005. An opening reception is scheduled to be held on Friday, October 28 at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public; call for hours.
Lawrence has a highly diversified art background and has bridged the gap between painting and photography by developing a way to synthesize the two media into a single image. During a quest for new imagery, she used vintage photographs of some of her favorite artists and began to paint portraits of those who captivated her, such as Paul Gauguin, Henri de Toulouse Lautrec and Pierre Bonnard.
"This show is a dedication to my mentors in art and photography from whom I have garnered inspiration and techniques. For me, the creation and expression of art is an energizing process that nourishes my imagination," said Lawrence. "As an artist, the constant search for new ideas and the stimulation that my work provides allow me to share with my viewers the gifts which have been so generously bestowed upon me."
Lawrence studied with renowned artists Harvey Dinnerstein, Robert Phillip Joseph Solman, Ad Reinhardt, Jimmy Ernst and Kurt Seligmann. At the International Center of Photography, she studied with the talented David Meisel, working in large format camera photography.
A native of New York, Lawrence has a doctorate in fine arts & arts education from Columbia University Teachers College, a master's degree in painting and drawing from Columbia University and a certificate in design from New York School of Interior Design. She has three years intensive studio work at the National Academy of Fine Art, New York. Recently, Lawrence joined FAU's art department faculty at the MacArthur campus.
