FAU to Present a Series of Lectures by Visiting Artists

BOCA RATON, FL (September 26, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University's University Galleries will host a series of lectures by visiting artists starting Thursday, September 29 and running through Thursday, October 20. All lectures take place on the Boca Raton campus at 777 Glades Road. The lectures include:

Thursday, September 29, 7 p.m.
Performing Arts Building, Room 101
Mark Dean Veca, "Picturing Florida: Listening to the Generations."
Dean Veca, who creates large-scale projects and tromp l'oeil pieces, will discuss his work on the Picturing Florida project. The artist is using children's ideas about Florida to create a large-scale piece of art that will appear at FAU in the Spring. (Lecture attendees are also invited to take part in an interactive art exhibition with FAU Professor Tammy Knipp in the Schmidt Gallery at 6 p.m. or following the lecture at 8.)

Thursday, October 6, 7 p.m.

Charles Stainback, "William Wegman."
Stainback, the former director of the International Center of Photography in New York City and Site in Santa Fe, New Mexico, will talk about the exhibition "It's a Dog's Life, Photographs by William Wegman from the Polaroid Collection" on display at FAU through November 12.

Tuesday, October 11, 7 p.m.

Barbara Hitchcock, "William Wegman."
Hitchcock, director of cultural affairs for the Polaroid Corporation, will talk about the exhibition "It's a Dog's Life, Photographs by William Wegman from the Polaroid Collection" on display at FAU through November 12.

Thursday, October 20, 7 p.m.

Ellen Harvey, "Picturing Florida: Listening to the Generations."
The artist, who creates works in video, installation and painting, will discuss her work in connection with the Picturing Florida project in which Harvey is using ideas from senior citizens about Florida to create a piece of art that will be on display at FAU in the spring. (Lecture attendees are also invited to take part in an interactive art exhibition with FAU Professor Tammy Knipp in the Schmidt Gallery at 6 p.m. or following the lecture at 8.)
