BOCA RATON, FL (September 20, 2005) - A Florida Atlantic University Cooperative (Co-op) Education and Internship student has been honored for a third consecutive year by the Florida Career Professionals Association (FCPA).
Pablo Godoy, who graduated from FAU in the spring, was awarded the 4-Year Experiential Education Student of the Year award for the 2004-05 academic year. A project assigned to him, while he interned with the United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, Forest Products Laboratory, was to generate a diverse applicant pool for the forestry's summer program. His efforts resulted in the most diverse applicant pool and percentage of hires in the history of the program.
Godoy is now the third consecutive intern out of the FAU Cooperative Education and Internship Office to be recognized by the FCPA. Len Lobban and Scott Newson both won the Co-op Student of the Year award the last two years respectively.
FAU co-op students rotate their time between University education and on-the-job experiences directly related to their academic majors in industry, business or governmental organizations. Co-op students earn a salary and may be eligible to receive credit pending approval of their academic department. The co-op program is designed to utilize principles learned in the classroom to actual work situations and problems. The program also enhances academic motivation, assists in career selection, accelerates professional maturity, helps defray the costs of education and develops better opportunities for employment upon graduation.
