FAU Libraries Presents Award-Winning Master Photographer,
Katie Deits Exhibit
September 1 - October 8, 2005
"Around the Block - Around the World" Photos at MacArthur Campus, Jupiter
BOCA RATON, FL (August 30, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University Libraries present award-winning Master Photographer Katie Deits' photo exhibit at FAU's MacArthur Campus Library from September 1 through October 8, 2005. The twenty-one photo display, titled Around the Block - Around the World, spans several years of her work. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
The collection includes international and regional works, featuring color photography, silver gelatin, Polaroid manipulation, print and poem, and C-prints. Her subjects are caught in moments of time, with intimate expressions juxtaposed to ordinary locales. Deits' work is fused with meaning and symbolism; it is thought provoking.
"I have come to realize that the role of the artist in society is not just to document and make pretty pictures for visual enjoyment. The role is to present the opportunity to the viewer to become more aware, to present a philosophical concept, and to effect societal change and personal growth. My desire is to, in some way, help make that contribution, and to offer hope in our often difficult world," says Deits.
A native of the Palm Beaches, she studied art in New York City and Florence, Italy, has a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of South Florida, and holds the Florida Degree of Photographic Excellence and a Master of Photography from Professional Photographers of America. Additionally, she is a sculptor, works in clay - ceramic sculpting, and art installations - creating environments for viewer interaction.
As a free lance photographer, Deits has worked in aerial, architectural and industrial photography; as a photojournalist, she has numerous awards.
Deits has been on the art faculties of Barry University and Palm Beach Community College. She is involved in the community, serving as a board member of Executive Women of the Palm Beaches, the Palm Beach Photographic Centre, and the Art in Community Committee for the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties.
For hours, please call 561-799-8530 or visit www.library.fau.edu/npb/npb.htm. Deits' website is www.katied.net.
