FAU National Alumni Association Holds
Election at Annual Board Meeting
BOCA RATON, FL (June 29, 2005) - The Florida Atlantic University National Alumni Association (FAUNAA) held its annual meeting and election on June 23, 2005 in the Board of Trustees Room on the Boca Raton campus with Tom Workman '71 presiding over his final meeting as FAUNAA president. The membership elected its five-person executive committee, in addition to 10 new board members. Head Football Coach Howard Schnellenberger spoke to the group and was presented with a plaque from the FAUNAA in recognition of his recent inductions into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame and the University of Kentucky Hall of Fame. Newly hired FAU Men's Basketball Coach Matt Doherty was also introduced and welcomed to the FAU community with a special gift.
The president's gavel was passed to Neale Poller '66, an attorney and partner in the Coral Gables firm of Camner, Lipsitz & Poller. Poller is a graduate of the University of Miami School of Law where he was inducted into the Bar and Gavel Legal Society. He is certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Certified Circuit and County Court Mediator. In addition, Poller is a member of the Florida, Dade County and American Bar Associations and the American Trial Lawyers Association. Poller hopes to cultivate more alumni involvement in university life and pledges to increase alumni financial support for the FAUNAA and the university during his term as president.
Anthony Barbar '78, a real estate advisor to large corporations and business owners, will serve in the role of president-elect. In his 25-year career in real estate, Barbar has been an influential force in bringing the concept of "family communities" to Boca Raton. He is a member of the Palm Beach Atlantic Board of Trustees and the Parents Council at Wheaton College.
Gloria Branch '91, an integral part of this area's banking industry for close to 20 years, has been elected vice president. She is vice president/branch manager of City National Bank of Florida in Delray Beach. An active community leader, Branch has served as vice president and is an active member of the Florence Fuller Child Development Center Board of Directors. She is a volunteer with the American Cancer Society and is on the board of the League for Educational Awareness of the Holocaust (LEAH).
Terry Gearing '73, '77, director of university relations on FAU's John D. MacArthur campus in Jupiter, has been elected secretary for a second term. After receiving her degrees from FAU in education, Gearing taught language arts for 10 years. A career change took her to the non profit sector with positions at the American Lung Association and the United Way. Gearing is deeply committed to community causes and volunteers for many organizations, and recently completed a term as president of Executive Women of the Palm Beaches.
Jorge Cabrera, Jr. '98, controller for The Breakers Palm Beach, Inc., was elected treasurer. His extensive service to the community is evidenced by his current participation as a trustee on the Village of Palm Springs Hazardous Employees Pension Board and his work previously on the Village's Code Enforcement Board.
Other newly elected FAUNAA board members for the 2005-2008 term include Aston Bright '99, district manager for ADP, the largest payroll services company in the world; Romayne P. Berry '98, senior vice president of consulting services for Right Management Consultants; Ray Monteleone '92, chairman and president, Monteleone & Associates Consulting, Inc. and principal, Kinney and Associates; Janice Moore Scheirich '93, town clerk for the town of Manalapan and the membership director of the Palm Beach County Municipal Clerks Association; Mark Hansen '93, Caldwell Banker, real estate professional, member of the Palm Beach County School Board, District 5 and author; Robert Green '82, executive vice president for residential lending at BankUnited; Michael W. Moore '04, general manager at Ultimate Manufacturing Inc.; Edgar "Klip" Klueppelberg, Jr. '68, divisional vice president of AXA Advisors LLC of South Florida; Ursula Chavez '03, project manager at Formica & Associates, Inc. Consulting Engineers; and Donna Towe '87, owner of two FASTFRAME custom picture framing shops. Re-elected for second three-year terms are David Struve '90, '01, supervising chemist with the South Florida Water Management District; Neale Poller '66; and Jorge Cabrera '98.
