FAU Nursing Students to Participate in
Simulated Crisis Exercise
FORT PIERCE, FL (June 10, 2005) - Atlantic Hope 2005, a joint field training exercise organized by Florida Atlantic University's Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, the Indian River Community College Public Service Division and the American Red Cross Palm Beach County Chapter, will be held from June 17-19 at the IRCC Main Campus in Fort Pierce. This regional humanitarian exercise is part of the FAU nursing course titled "Nursing Situations in Disaster Relief and Humanitarian Assistance."
The students will gear-up for the experience on Friday, and the exercise will begin Saturday, June 18 at 8 a.m. at the IRCC Law Enforcement Training Area, just south of the Main Campus behind the River Hammock student housing complex. The location is accessible from Kirby Loop Road. The exercise will conclude Sunday at 12 p.m.
The intensive, two-day training event is designed to give FAU nursing students and others involved a first-hand learning experience. American Red Cross disaster specialists, students and staff from the IRCC Law Enforcement Academy and Army Reserve soldiers from the 317th MP Battalion will be full-time participants in the event. Representatives from the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Port St. Lucie Police Department, Fort Pierce Police Department, Boca Raton Community Hospital and Palm Beach County Department of Health will also participate.
