FAU Libraries Online Exhibition "Rabbis as Chaplains in America's Military: A Tradition of Dedication, Service
and Bravery"
BOCA RATON, FL (March 24, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University Libraries announce "Rabbis as Chaplains in America's Military: A Tradition of Dedication, Service and Bravery," an online exhibition available through FAU's website at www.fau.edu/library/depts/judaica9.htm, as its latest addition to the Molly S. Fraiberg Judaica Collection. Written and contributed by Seymour "Sy" Brody, a World War II veteran and author of "Jewish Heroes and Heroines of America," this new exhibition details the history and development of rabbis who served as chaplains in the United States military.
The exhibit, complete with text, pictures and illustrations, depicts the difficulties that rabbis experienced in becoming chaplains in America's military. The exhibit also pays homage to the seven women rabbis who became American military chaplains and the two who are on active duty. Eight chaplains died in service during World War II.
"Rabbis as Chaplains in America's Military: A Tradition of Dedication, Service and Bravery" is the sixth exhibition of Brody's to be hosted by the Libraries Special Collections Department. His other exhibitions include: "Jewish Heroes and Heroines of America: Colonial times to 1900," "Jewish Heroes and Heroines of America: 1900 to World War II," "Jewish Heroes and Heroines of America: World War II to the present," "Jewish Recipients of the Medal of Honor" and "Jews in America's Military." All of Brody's exhibitions can be accessed through FAU's website.
