FAU Presents Motivational Speaker Scott Fried to Speak on AIDS Awareness
BOCA RATON, FL (February 22, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University will host motivational speaker Scott Fried to speak on the subject of AIDS, with a focus on increased awareness and limiting the number of HIV infections. The lecture will be held on Wednesday, February 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. at FAU's Boca Raton campus, Grand Palm Room, University Center, 777 Glades Rd. His lecture topics include sexual responsibility, homosexuality, peer pressure, refusal skills, dealing with death and other topics.
Fried has devoted the past 13 years to AIDS awareness after getting infected with HIV in 1987. He has spoken in nearly every state in the country, as well as Israel, England and Canada, reaching over a million teens. In addition to answering any and all questions from audiences, he teaches basic and advanced facts about AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases and encourages teens to create their own peer HIV-education groups.
Fried was seen on the television day-time drama Guiding Light portraying Bart Mesa, a young man living with HIV. He is featured in the books Living Proof: Courage in the Face of AIDS, The Faces of AIDS: Lives at the Epicenter, and The World is a Narrow Bridge: Stories that Celebrate Hope and Healing. Fried is the author of If I Grow Up: Talking with Teens about AIDS, Love and Staying Alive, a self-published account of his life experiences. In addition, Fried has received the Honorary Star of the Rainbow Award for his work with teens.
