FAU Presents Concert with Florida Woodwind Quintet

BOCA RATON, FL (January 21, 2005) - Florida Atlantic University's School of the Arts presents a concert by the Florida Woodwind Quintet, with special guest Arthur Weisberg, on Sunday, January 30 at 2 p.m. The concert will be presented at the University Theatre on FAU's Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. General admission is $15 with group discounts available. FAU students, faculty, staff and alumni may obtain free admission with ID.

The upcoming concert will include Weisberg's world premiere of his compositions "Sextet for Piano and Woodwind Quintet," Beethoven's "Trio for Flute, Bassoon and Piano," Anton Reicha's "Woodwind Quintet" and Charles Lefebre's "Suite for Wind Instruments."

Weisberg was bassoonist with the New York Woodwind Quintet for 14 years and has taught at Juilliard, the State University of New York at Stony Brook and Yale University. He also played first bassoon with the Houston and Baltimore Symphonies and the Symphony of the Air, and second bassoon with the Cleveland Orchestra. He has conducted the Milwaukee Symphony and the Sjaellands and Aalborg Symphonies of Denmark.

The Florida Woodwind Quintet is a new ensemble-in-residence at FAU that is quickly making its mark in Southeast Florida. It is comprised of some of the finest musicians in the region, including Elissa Lakofsky, flute; Robert Weiner, oboe; Paul Green, clarinet; David Peel, horn; and Arthur Weisberg, bassoon. Members are principal players of major symphony orchestras such as the Florida Grand Opera, Symphony of the Americas and Atlantic Classical Orchestra, and prestigious chamber ensembles such as the New York Woodwind Quintet, the Nodus Ensemble and Ensemble 21. The Quintet members bring together their vast experience to create programs with both deep musical understanding and great excitement.

For more information about the concert or to purchase tickets, call the Arts Update hotline at 561-297-2977 or email artstickets@fau.edu. Tickets may also be purchased one hour prior to the performance. The concert is presented by FAU's School of the Arts' Department of Music in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, in partnership with Bank of America and the Palm Beach County Cultural Council.
