FAU Presents Lecture: "Tales of the Rabbis: Inside the World of the Founders of Judaism"
BOCA RATON, FL (December 10, 2004) - Florida Atlantic University will present a free lecture entitled "Tales of the Rabbis: Inside the World of the Founders of Judaism" on Tuesday, December 28 at 4:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Building, Room 101 of FAU's Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. The lecture, presented by Barry Holtz of the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York, is sponsored by FAU's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and Alan L. Berger, Raddock Eminent Scholar Chair of Holocaust Studies.
Dr. Barry W. Holtz is the Theodore and Florence Baumritter Professor of Jewish Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. Raised in the Boston area, he is a graduate of Tufts University and received his Ph.D. from Brandeis. Holtz is the author or editor of five books, including Back to the Sources: Reading the Classic Jewish Texts, a guide to understanding and appreciating the great Jewish books. Back to the Sources was a Book-of-the Month Club alternate selection and is widely used in adult education and university courses. Holtz's newest book, Textual Knowledge: Teaching the Bible in Theory and in Practice, was published last year by the Jewish Theological Seminary Press. It recently won the Jewish Book Council's 2004 National Jewish Book Award in the field of education.
