FAU Receives Flag Donation
from Treasure Coast Woodmen Chapter
BOCA RATON, FL (November 19, 2004) - Florida Atlantic University recently accepted a generous donation of 222 American flags from the Treasure Coast Woodmen Chapter, a life insurance group located in Port St. Lucie.
"We are extremely thankful to the Woodmen group for their kind gift to FAU," said FAU President Frank T. Brogan. "The giving spirit exhibited by this group is an example of the patriotism seen throughout the community."
This gift is in response to a state law passed in May requiring Florida's community colleges and state universities to install an American flag in every classroom. The Woodmen group donated the 2' x 3' flags, which will be mounted in 218 classrooms across FAU's seven campuses.
"We are privileged to be able to assist FAU with obtaining American flags for their classrooms," said Jim Kirstein, lodge president of the Treasure Coast Woodmen Chapter. "We always want to help out schools as much as we can."
Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society, founded in 1890, is one of the largest fraternal benefit societies in the United States, offering insurance protection with member benefits. Woodmen lodges across the country conduct fraternal projects to benefit people and their communities. These projects include presenting American flags to civic and community organizations; donating equipment to police, fire and rescue units; providing assistance to senior citizens, the physically impaired and orphans; and assisting with disaster relief in partnership with the American Red Cross.
