FAU Wimberly Library, Fraiberg Jewish Music Collections Announces Auditions For New Judaica Choral Society
Unique Community Choir is the Only Jewish Music Chorus in Residence at a State University in the United States
BOCA RATON, FL (November 9, 2004) - Florida Atlantic University's Molly S. Fraiberg Judaica Collection announces the formation and auditions for the FAU Libraries Judaica Choral Society, a community Jewish music chorus with a mission to rehearse and perform choral music specifically from the Wimberly Library Judaica Music Collection. This choir is a groundbreaking initiative, as it is the only Jewish music chorus in residence at a state university in the United States.
The Judaica Choral Society will be under the direction of Aaron Kula, resident scholar in music at FAU's Wimberly Library and faculty member at Boston's New England Conservatory of Music. The repertoire will include Yiddish theatre, folk songs, cantorial music, Jewish operettas and Broadway hits sung in various languages, including Hebrew, Yiddish and English. Singers of all denominations are welcome and knowledge of languages is not a requirement.
The chorus will work with guest artists and perform with the renowned Klezmer Company, the FAU Wimberly Library's professional ensemble in residence. The Judaica Chorale Society will make its debut at the eighth annual Klezmer Company concert, "Jewish Broadway with Orchestra and Chorus" on Sunday, March 6 at 3 p.m. at FAU's University Center Auditorium.
For more information about auditioning for the FAU Judaica Choral Society, contact Aaron Kula at 561-297-3742 or akula@fau.edu.
