FAU Hosts Distinguished Lecture Series on the American Presidency
BOCA RATON, FL (October 8, 2004) As the United States prepares to elect a new leader, the countrys focus has shifted to the role of the presidency. Shedding light on this timely topic, the Florida Atlantic University Lifelong Learning Society will present a lecture series on the American presidency.
The eight-week series will begin on Thursday, October 14 at 6:30 p.m. at FAUs Boca Raton campus, Lifelong Learning Auditorium, 777 Glades Rd. and Friday, October 15 at 9:45 a.m. on FAUs Jupiter campus at the Abacoa Crown Theater, 4688 Main Street, Jupiter. The series will be held every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Boca Raton or Friday at 9:45 a.m. in Jupiter (with the exception of November 11 & 12 and November 25 & 26).
This lecture series will be a lively program featuring former presidential candidates, White House aides and others who have personal insight and expertise on the American presidency, said Dr. Robert P. Watson, associate professor of political science and symposia coordinator.
Distinguished speakers include:
Governor Michael Dukakis Three term governor of Massachusetts and 1998 Democratic nominee for president, Dukakis will analyze the results of the 2004 presidential election.
Congressman Tom Evans Former chair of the Republican National Committee and member of Congress from Delaware, Evans will analyze the state of the American presidency, including the Bush presidency, and share with the audience his experience in working with several presidents.
Ambassador Henry Kimelman Former U.S. ambassador, aide to President Kennedy and President Johnson and vice-chair of the Council of American Ambassadors, Kimelman will discuss his experience in working with several presidents and notable political leaders, as well as discuss the desire for power that drives many presidential candidates.
Congresswoman Pat Schroeder the longest serving woman in the history of the U.S. House of Representatives and candidate for the presidency, Schroeder is now the president of the Association of American Publishers. She will speak on women and their relationship to the American presidency.
