FAU and the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition Join in Cooperative Research
BOCA RATON, FL (October 19, 2004) - Florida Atlantic University and the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (FIHMC) will sign an affiliation agreement to conduct cooperative research and educational activities related to human-centered computing, which includes elements of artificial intelligence, cognitive science, computer science and other related areas. The signing ceremony will take place on Wednesday, October 20 at 9 a.m. in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science Center, Conference Room 123.
The agreement recognizes the unique expertise at FIHMC in human-centered computing and the unique expertise of FAU in scientific and educational disciplines, specifically dealing with the marine environment. FIHMC, based at the University of West Florida, is one of the nation's premier IT-related research organizations, investigating a broad range of topics related to building computational systems to leverage and extend human cognitive and perceptual capacities.
The signing agreement ceremony will be followed by presentations by FAU faculty in the College of Engineering & Computer Science; the FAU Center for Coastline Security; the Robotics Department at FAU's Seatech campus; and, Dr. Clifford Bragdon, director of the Center for Intermodal Transportation Safety and Security, based at FAU. FIHMC partners will present their work to faculty from 2 - 3 p.m.
