FAU Exhibition to Feature Diverse Works of Professor Robert S. Watson

BOCA RATON, FL (August 25, 2004) - The University Galleries in Florida Atlantic University's School of the Arts present the creative, inventive and diverse work of Robert S. Watson, an FAU professor of 36 years. The exhibition will run Friday, September 17 through Saturday, October 2 in the Schmidt Center Gallery on FAU's Boca Raton campus, and is free and open to the public. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, September 16 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The exhibition presents a selection of works - printmaking, painting, sculpture - that the artist has presented in FAU faculty events during his career at FAU. During Watson's tenure in the Department of Visual Arts and Art History at FAU, he established and directed the Department of Visual Art and Art History's printmaking program. Watson also served for four years as director of the Ritter Art Gallery on the Boca Raton campus. He received an MFA degree, specializing in printmaking, from Ohio University.

Outside of University events, Watson has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions at over 30 galleries and museums nationally and internationally. These include ten appearances in the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale's Hortt Exhibition, where in 1978 he was awarded Best of Show, and appearances in many collections such as those at Bucknell University, the Disney Corporation, Boeing Aircraft Corporation and the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale. Watson has also given guest lectures and workshops at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, the Norton Museum School of Art in West Palm Beach and Florida International University, among many others.

FAU's University Galleries are part of the School of the Arts in FAU's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. The Schmidt Center Gallery is open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. Group tours are also available by appointment.
