FAU Launches Classical Music Webcast
BOCA RATON, FL (April 8, 2004) - Florida Atlantic University today unveiled Wavelengths, a new, live, online classical radio station. The webcast, a component of PROTEUS, a new multimedia website in FAU's Department of Communication, allows listeners to hear full-length performances of compositions from the Middle Ages through the 21st century juxtaposed with relevant stories, poetry or other literary text. It is broadcast Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and can be found at http://proteus.fau.edu/wavelengths.
"We incorporate classical music's tried and true standards along with a more challenging repertoire," said Kevin Petrich, on-air host for Wavelengths and instructor in FAU's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. "The playlists provide a menu of interesting works and outstanding performances of noted musicians and ensembles."
Wavelengths maintains archives of all shows, allowing prior broadcasts to be accessed and replayed in their entirety, virtually providing classical music and special programming 24 hours a day to South Florida and beyond.
The PROTEUS website is the public face of the Multimedia Studies Program in the Department of Communication, which explores developments in new media, journalism, education, visual arts and entertainment. The program brings together students, researchers, theorists and practitioners from art, communications, engineering and computer science, in the interest of expanding the scope of interactive media.
