Hosts Lecture by Artist Michael Singer
JUPITER, FL (March 24, 2004) - Florida Atlantic
University's MacArthur campus in Jupiter will host a lecture by artist Michael
Singer, Eminent Scholar in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters,
on Monday, March 29 at 7 p.m. Singer's topic will be "Imagining Howard Park:
Designing a Park for South Florida's Unique Environment." The lecture will
be held in the MacArthur Campus auditorium located at 5353 Parkside Drive, Jupiter.
An opening reception prior to the lecture will be held from 5:30 - 7 p.m. in the
MacArthur Library Atrium.
Singer has
received numerous awards including fellowships from the National Endowment for
the Arts and the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. His works are part of public
collections in the United States and abroad, including the Australian National
Gallery, Canberra; Guggenheim Museum, New York and the Metropolitan Museum of
Art, New York.
An interactive exhibit,
Imagining Howard Park, will be on display at FAU's library in Jupiter through
April 11. The exhibit, Imagining Howard Park, has been made possible through a
grant sponsored by the Palm Beach County Cultural Council and funded through the
Florida State ARTS license plate. Singer, the recipient of the grant, is known
for creating public art that questions assumptions about community space and infrastructure
design. His work often leads to new understandings of community planning and the
implementation of model projects. The design and program opportunities identified
in Imagining Howard Park are the result of a dedicated team effort led by the
artist.
The exhibit will be on display
at FAU's MacArthur campus through April 11. Hours are Monday through Thursday
9 a.m. - 10 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Sunday
12:30 - 9 p.m.
Both the lecture and reception
are free and open to the public. For reservations or information, call 561-799-8000. -FAU-
