Hosts "Medicine from the Sea" Lecture
PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (March 19, 2004) - The Florida
Atlantic University Treasure Coast Campus will host "Medicine From the Sea,"
a lecture by Dr. Russell Kerr, FAU professor of chemistry and bio-chemistry. The
lecture is scheduled for Thursday, April 1 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and is part of
the Spring 2004 Lifelong Learning Concert and Lecture Series. Dr.
Kerr, also director of the Center of Excellence for Bio-Medical and Marine Bio-Technology,
will be presenting a general overview of the potential mining of pharmaceuticals
from marine life and organisms. He will also discuss anti-cancer drugs that may
be derived from marine sponges and corals, the challenges concerning the supply
of the pharmaceuticals and FAU's current research related to bio-medical and marine
bio-technology.

are held at the FAU Treasure Coast Campus, 500 NW California Boulevard, St. Lucie
