FAU Hosts Lecture by Brent Scowcroft on
The End of the Cold War and Collapse of the Soviet Union
Founder of the Forum for International Policy Participates in FAU Presidential Symposia Lecture Series
BOCA RATON, FL (February 5, 2004) - Florida Atlantic Universitys Presidential Symposia Lecture Series presents General Brent Scowcroft, who will be speaking on the topic of The End of the Cold War and Collapse of the Soviet Union. The lecture will be held on Thursday, February 19 at 3:45 p.m. in the Barry and Florence Friedberg Auditorium on the Boca Raton Campus, 777 Glades Road.
Scowcroft will discuss the forces that brought about the end of the Cold War and the response by the Bush administration. He will also examine the post-Cold War world, the changes occurring and forces behind them, the role of international bodies such as NATO and how the war on terror is impacting international relations.
Scowcroft had a front- row seat to the end of the Cold War as national security advisor to President George H.W. Bush. He also served as national security advisor to President Gerald Ford and as deputy national security advisor to President Richard Nixon. General Scowcroft is the founder and president of The Forum for International Policy, a non-partisan, non-profit organization providing independent perspectives and opinions on major foreign policy issues, based on commitment to active, thoughtful American global leadership. He is also president of the Scowcroft Group, Inc., an active international business consulting firm. Scowcroft has chaired numerous presidential commissions and was bestowed honors from Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The Presidential Symposia is coordinated by Dr. Robert P. Watson, assistant professor of political science at FAU, and sponsored by the FAU Lifelong Learning Society. This is the sixth lecture in an eight-week lecture series. The series is being held every Thursday through March 4 from 3:45-5:30 p.m. The cost for the lecture series is $55 for LLS member and $75 for nonmembers. For more information, call 561-297-3171.
