Hospitality & Tourism Degree Offered at FAU
FT. LAUDERDALE, FL (February 9, 2004) Florida Atlantic Universitys Department of Industry Studies announces the launch of its newest program in Hospitality & Tourism Management. Students from this program will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a Hospitality & Tourism Management specialization.
As a major in the College of Business, the Hospitality & Tourism Program offers the same core courses as other business majors. Every graduate of this program will have completed at least 1,000 hours of industry work experience, which will assure potential employers that FAU's students are well-prepared for the hospitality field. The Hospitality and Tourism major at FAU prepares graduates for management positions in: tourism businesses, foodservice, hotels, resorts, senior living facilities, cruise ships, convention centers, casinos, attractions, sports facilities, commercial recreation, entertainment services and more.
The hospitality and tourism industry is critical to the regional, national and world economy. In 2001 it generated more than $3.5 trillion and accounted for 12 percent of revenues generated in the world. In the United States, this industry was the second largest employer and generated 7.8 million jobs. Florida is consistently in the top three states with respect to both international and domestic tourism and ranks second in the U.S in tourism employment.
Applications are now being accepted for summer and fall 2004 semesters. Interested students should call 954-762-5645 or check the website at www.fau.edu/hospitality.
