FAU Names New Administrative Team

BOCA RATON, FL (January 9, 2004) -- Florida Atlantic University President Frank T. Brogan today named three new administrators to help lead the university to the next level of excellence.

John F. Pritchett has been named provost and chief academic officer, Lawrence F. Davenport has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer and Ann E. Paton has been named vice president of university advancement.

“Florida Atlantic University is fortunate to have on its team these three new dynamic professionals,” said Brogan. “With the level of experience and expertise exhibited by our new administrators, there is no doubt that FAU’s best days are within reach.”

Responsible for FAU’s academic, administrative and fundraising functions, Pritchett, Davenport and Paton bring years of experience and expertise to their new positions, including:

John F. Pritchett will begin at FAU after serving at Auburn University as interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. Pritchett, who earned a Ph.D. in animal physiology and biological chemistry from Iowa State University, has served at Auburn University for more than 30 years. During his tenure, Pritchett has been an associate provost for academic affairs and dean of the Graduate School. As FAU’s new provost and chief academic officer, Pritchett will be responsible for providing leadership for the division of academic affairs.

Lawrence F. Davenport will come to FAU after serving as the executive director of the Hale House Center, Inc., New York, an organization dedicated to helping rebuild families through the provision of child services, support networks and innovative educational programming. Davenport earned a doctorate in education from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Prior to his position at the Hale House Center, Davenport served as deputy chief administrative officer for the U.S. House of Representatives, the vice president of finance and operations at the Milton Hershey School and the chief financial officer for the Seattle Public School System. He has also served as assistant secretary of education for the U.S. Department of Education under two separate secretaries: Terrel H. Bell and William J. Bennett. As FAU’s new executive vice president and chief operating officer, Davenport will be responsible for all administrative and operation functions at FAU.

Ann E. Paton will begin her tenure at FAU after five years as the executive dean for advancement at Brown Medical School, where she successfully led the School’s first capital campaign to surpass a fundraising goal of $70 million. Paton earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Fitchburg State College in Massachusetts. Prior to her position at Brown, Paton was the director of special development programs and the director of alumni relations and annual giving at Dartmouth Medical School and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

The three positions were filled after six months of searching the nation for top candidates. Two positions, provost and advancement vice president, were concluded with the assistance of national search firm Morris & Berger. The new vice presidents will each start their new positions by the beginning of April.
