FAU Hosts Lecture By Michael J. Devine On The Korean War and Its Unfinished Business
Director of the Truman Presidential Library Participates in FAU Presidential Symposia Lecture Series
BOCA RATON, FL (January 26, 2004) - Florida Atlantic Universitys Presidential Symposia Lecture Series presents Dr. Michael J. Devine, who will be speaking on the topic of The Korean War and the Middle East Crisis. The lecture will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2004 at 3:45 p.m. in the Barry and Florence Friedberg Auditorium on the Boca Raton Campus, 777 Glades Road.
Devine is a well-known scholar and diplomatic historian, who served as a Senior Fulbright lecturer in Korea during the fall of 1995. He served on the faculty of the University of Wyoming from 1991-2001, where he taught courses in U.S. and diplomatic history and directed the Universitys American Heritage Centers from 1991-2000. He will draw on topics relating to the Republic of Korea, the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea and the Korean Liberation Movement.
Devine is currently the director of the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and President of the Truman Library Institute for National and International Affairs. He has more than twenty-five years of experience in the management of historical museums and archives. From 1999-2000, he was the president of the National Council on Public History. Devine has published widely on subjects from American foreign policy to the history of the American West.
The Presidential Symposia is coordinated by Dr. Robert P. Watson, assistant professor of political science at FAU, and sponsored by the FAU Lifelong Learning Society. This is the third lecture in an eight-week lecture series. The series is being held every Thursday through March 4 from 3:45- 5:30 p.m. The cost for the lecture series is $55 for LLS member and $75 for nonmembers.
